Journey Overview
Day 1 Arrival and first sauna bath
Arrival at Helsinki Airport. Your northern Star Guide welcomes you. From there, the journey heads east, with a stop in the historic town of Porvoo for coffee and pastry.
Overnight in Kotka—a coastal town, where the Baltic Sea waits just beyond the pier. At Laituri, a public sauna used by locals, the contrast is immediate: heat, cold, steam, sea, The Finnish rhythm begins.
Day 2 In nature´s rythm
The day begins with a short hike—just two kilometers, but it leads us deep into the quiet heart of the national park. Here, surrounded by forest and silence, we prepare lunch over an open fire.
Later Tykkimäki Sauna offers one of Finland’s longest ice holes, carved straight into the frozen lake. Step in, step out, feel your body respond.
Day 3 Toward the city
Private transport back to Helsinki and check in at the hotel.
In the afternoon visit a floating sauna with views across the harbour. Birch whisks, steam, and a cold plunge under open sky give the session tone.
In the evening there is time to explore the city and its many layers . A curated list of recommendations is provided , from trusted restaurants to most popular cafès.
Day 4 A gentle introduction to Helsinki
The morning is yours. After breakfast, the city opens at your pace. We share a curated list of places worth knowing, Iconic landmarks and best cafes and lunch restaurants.
The afternoon is reserved for a true Helsinki ritual. Step into Kotiharjun Sauna - an institution in the heart of the city. Built in the 1920s and still heated with wood. This is sauna as part of daily life
Day 5 Ending in wood and steam
The journey closes with a final session at Löyly—Helsinki’s iconic public sauna by the sea. Architectural and open and from the magazine The Times list of the 100 must places in the world to visit. From first plunge to final pour, the body has learned a new language.

This trip will be guided by Finnish Ida Kaijalainen, founder and owner of Northern Star. Ida Kaijalainen grew up with sauna as a constant. Even when she lived and travelled far from Finland, sauna was her link back — a ritual that always brought her home again.
Today Ida is involved in promoting finnish sauna culture not only via Northern Star, but also at sauna festivals, fairs and presentations, and is consiedered one of the most knowledgeable sauna experts in the field.

In Kotka we’ll check into Hotel Seurahuone, located in the heart of the city. With the waterfront, restautarants and award-winnig parks just a short stroll away, it is the perfect base for exploring.
For design lovers there is also the option of staying at Alvar Aalto Apartment in Sunila – a piece of Finnish architectural history , featuring interiors designed by the master himself.
